In 2019, EUL embarked on the refurbishment of the Nalubaale 132 kV and 33 kV Substations. The substations consist of several concrete and steel support structures called frames, posts and bases which were not in a good condition and therefore required repairing the concrete structures and restoring the protective coating to the steel structures.
The protective coating on the steel structures had deteriorated due to effects of weather leading to corrosion. Previous works on the substation towers was done 10 years ago and limited to only the 132 kV Substation.
The refurbishment started by thoroughly cleaning the metallic structures, surfaces for the marshalling kiosks and surge arrestor support towers were prepared and application of the aluminium color paint done at the 33 kV substation.
