In December 2020, the Kiira Power Station protection upgrade on unit 13, 14 and 15 was successfully commissioned. The project involved replacement and upgrading the generator protection. The upgrade involved installation of protection schemes for generator safety. The scope of works involved decommissioning of the old protection relay panels, installing, and commissioning of the new relay panels. Protection relays are intelligent devices used to detect a fault in the generator.
