Eskom Uganda Hosts Invitational Soccer Tournament

Eight teams from the Jinja and Buikwe competed for honors in the Eskom Invitational Soccer tournament that took place to commemorate Eskom’s 10years of being in Uganda since 2003.

Eskom Uganda Limited is a private limited liability company that is celebrating ten years since it started work in the country as part of their celebrations they are hosting several social activities that include soccer and golf to mention. The Eskom Invitational Soccer Tournament will take place over four days on two consecutive weekends starting April 27.

“The teams we have carefully invited were selected from the divisions of Njeru TC, Jinja Central, Mpumudde – Kimaka and Bugembe TC. These are the divisions in which we closely operate” said Nokwanda Mngeni, Eskom Chief Executive Officer.

“Eskom has been very big in sports participation. On top of participating in the Hared and MTN marathons and the corporate leagues, we have sponsored the Jinja Golf Open for the last 4 years.” She added, “We have decided to sponsor a football tournament this time round because more people play and enjoy football than golf and we want to celebrate with the people.

The Eskom Invitational Soccer tournament was played in a round robin format where the eight teams were drawn into two groups of four each. This resulted into 12 group games. The top two teams in each group then proceed to semi finals and the two semi finals winners to finals. where Arsenal FC2 emerged over all winners of the tournament. Altogether 15 games played over four days. The winning team was rewarded with a trophy of Excellence from Eskom Uganda as well as branded football kit and equipment. There will also be prizes for MVP and Golden boot.
