MAIN DAM REFURBISHMENT PROJECT

Over the years the grout curtain has deteriorated and is observed as the water seepages on downstream side of the dam structure.  Continued seepage through the dam structure has a negative impact on the functional and structural integrity of the structure in the long term.

Works to cure the leakages on the main dam commenced at Nalubaale and Kiira Power Plants. The scope of work therefore involves drilling and grouting 55mm diameter holes from downstream step below crest roadway, drilling, and flushing, vertically, 10-20m deep, injection of grout material, water pressure testing (normal and comprehensive) and injection of cementitious grout material.

Works are steadily ongoing and are expected to end in August 2021.
